Empowering Minds – Community Library and Resource Centre Trip (October 2026)

In 2025, we marked a historic twinning between Musanda (Kenya) and Kennington (Oxfordshire, UK), celebrating their long-standing connection through Nasio projects. Thanks to vital fundraising by the Kennington community, Musanda’s first library and resource centre has been built. It will open in October 2026, bringing access to reading for the wider community.

Join us on this pivotal journey by volunteering with us in Kenya and making a transformative impact on young people!

Dates: 4th – 13th October 2026

Duration: 10 days (flexible days also available)

Costs:

  • Food and Accommodation : £73 per day
  • Donation towards Nasio projects: £350
  • Total for 10 days : £1,080

Early Bird Offer: Book your trip by 1st June to avail a discounted rate of £50 / day for a total of £850 for a 10-day trip.

What you will be engaged in:

  • Opening ceremony of library and resource centre
  • Inaugural reading circles for young learners at the centre
  • Healthcare campaigns such as jiggers removals and smearing of houses
  • Football sessions and sports empowerment for young girls and boys
  • Farming and kitchen gardening

Example Itinerary

Arrive at the Nasio Guesthouse. Have an orientation by the Nasio staff and enjoy dinner as you get to know each other.

Start the day off by serving breakfast at St Irene. Attend a church service before having lunch at the guesthouse. In the afternoon, depart for Mumias to help with slum cleaning. Finally, visit the Bukaya Rock to enjoy some stunning views as the sun goes down.

Spend the morning at St Irene interacting with students and teachers, having a chance to experience life at one of our early childhood development centres. After lunch, take part in a home visit to a Nasio beneficiary and cook a meal for the family.

Visit a local secondary school and hand out sanitary items to students and lead a health talk to girls. Attend a girls football session.

Help inaugurate the first community library in Musanda with local community members.

Lead reading sessions with local children as the first activity at the library.

Shadow maternity workers at the GMK Medical Centre and help deliver meals to patients.

Work with community health volunteers to remove jiggers and help train the community in hygiene.

Help the team harvest spirulina, a blue-green algae used as a superfood in our feeding programme.

Assist with tree planting, helping with Nasio’s sustainability goals. In the afternoon enjoy a farewell party – a chance to say goodbye and reflect on your time with Nasio.
